    Recently, the 4300mm wide and thick plate intermediate billet cooling system, constructed by Beijing University of Science and Technology Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Beijing Science and Technology Design Institute), under EPC general contracting, has been successfully launched and put into operation in Laigang Iron and Steel Group (hereinafter referred to as Laigang). The production line's rolling mill adopts a dual-stand arrangement, and the rolling mill control system is an advanced foreign control system. This marks another successful case of intermediate cooling achieving data interface and data interaction with advanced foreign rolling mill control systems following the 4300mm wide and thick plate intermediate cooling system (2021, single stand) in Baowu Iron and Steel Group and Wuhan Iron and Steel Group.

    In order to increase production efficiency and improve the internal properties and surface quality of products, the 4300mm wide and thick plate production line of Laigang signed a contract with Beijing Science and Technology Design Institute for the addition of an intermediate cooling project based on thorough preliminary research. The intermediate cooling project adopts Beijing Science and Technology Design Institute's new generation of ultra-dense box-type jet cooling technology, with an effective cooling zone length of 8000mm. The project adopts an EPC turnkey approach, with project content including supply, return water system upgrade and transformation, intermediate cooling body equipment, and data interaction with foreign rolling mill control systems.


    Data interaction with foreign rolling mill control systems is the biggest challenge of this project. The intermediate cooling water cooling method changes the original air-cooled temperature field of the intermediate billet. How to complete the data interaction with the rolling mill control system, ensure the accuracy and stability of key rolling process parameters, has become the key to the success or failure of the project. Through continuous technical breakthroughs, research and development, and on-site testing, the project team successfully solved the related problems. Through comparison on-site, the actual finishing rolling force consistency is good, and the finished product quality has no fluctuations, meeting the expected requirements of the project.


    Due to its significant advantages in increasing production capacity and mature technology, the intermediate cooling system has become a standard configuration for domestic medium and heavy plate lines. Currently, Beijing Science and Technology Design Institute has successfully implemented more than ten performance lines including Laigang Iron and Steel, Baowu Iron and Steel, and Nanyang Han Ye. The foreign rolling mill control system docked by Beijing Science and Technology Design Institute's intermediate cooling system has been applied in many domestic lines. Whether such lines can achieve complete data interaction between the newly added intermediate cooling system and the rolling mill control system will directly determine the success or failure of the project. Beijing Science and Technology Design Institute will continue to serve the Laigang project and, based on the successful implementation experience of Laigang's wide and thick plate line, provide a complete and mature solution for similar domestic lines, helping enterprises achieve increased production and efficiency.
